Some much needed changes hove into view

In January 2025 the Government announced a series of changes to cycling offences, which included holding onto vehicles, riding without lights (but also using lights that are too bright or dazzling), not stopping at a school crossing, and riding without due care and attention.

DVSA declared that they were going further in their crack down on the artificially created waiting list for car tests by threatening the removal of the online booking facility from driving instructors who buy tests for people other than their own pupils. The issue of long waiting times has dogged DVSA for the past three or four years, and a substantial industry has grown up in test re-selling at inflated prices. Sensible waiting times will improve the service for all vehicle types including motorcycles.

Best of all the Government stated that 2025 would see the roll out of a digital driving licence. In a world of digital plane and cinema tickets this is long overdue. Hopefully, this will be extended to include Theory Test, CBT, and Module 1 certificates in due course. At long last the issue of our customers losing documents (and subsequently money) will be put to bed – frankly this can’t come soon enough!

Not a bad start to the New Year.
